To dispose of residential wood debris, you must:

• Remove any nails from the wood.
• Securely tie the wood in bales no more than two feet high and four feet long.
• Use twine or rope to tie up the bundles of wood. Don't use nylon line, tape, or other binding material.
• Place the bundles out curbside between 4 PM and midnight the day before your trash day.

If you have wood debris or items more than two feet high and four feet long, you can’t dispose of your item with your regular trash and must make a bulk pick-up appointment. To schedule an appointment, visit the Bulk Item Disposal page.

Construction or Home Repair Debris

Wood debris from construction or home improvement projects is considered commercial waste, unless you did the work yourself and did not hire anyone to help. 

If you are doing a major construction or renovation project in your home, and you hire someone to help, they are responsible for disposing of lumber and other construction material. 

If you did repair work in your own home and didn’t hire anyone to help, you can place the items out for collection with your regular trash if they are no more than four feet long and two feet high. 

If you have wood items more than two feet high and four feet long, you must make a bulk pick-up appointment. To schedule an appointment, visit the Bulk Item Disposal page.

You can report that your wood debris wasn’t picked up on your trash day starting at 8 AM the day after your service day. 

To make a complaint, items must:

• Be from a residential building or a non-profit organization that receives collection services from the Department of Sanitation
• Be placed out properly between 4 PM and midnight the day before the scheduled collection day
• Remain curbside

Reports are not accepted if:

• Your scheduled service day was suspended due to a City holiday, winter snowstorm operation, or other event
• Items were put out late or on the wrong day
• Items were put out incorrectly
• Items were not placed curbside
