You can file a complaint about misleading jewelry appraisals in New York City.

Individuals who sell or appraise jewelry in New York City must:

  • Provide a written jewelry appraisal that states the standard of monetary value used
  • Provide detailed sales slips for sales of more than $75
  • Disclose that jewelry appraisals may vary as much as 25 percent

Individuals who sell or appraise jewelry may not misrepresent the nature of an article of jewelry.
