To start, select "Purchase Access Pass" on the kiosk screen to rent a bicycle for a 24-hour or weekly pass, and then swipe your credit or debit card. You will be given a ride code to unlock your bike.

For your next trip, re-swipe the same credit or debit card for a new ride code. Your card will not be charged again for multiple rides within the purchased time period.

Types of Payment Accepted

Most major credit and debit card payments are accepted. Cash is not accepted.

A temporary hold of $101 is placed on all credit and debit card transactions at the kiosk (for all 24 hour and weekly memberships) as a security deposit. The $101 hold will be removed once the hold expires, which may take up to 10 days, depending on your credit card company's policy.

Day Pass

You can purchase 24-hour and 72-hour access at a station kiosk or by using the Citi Bike app for iPhone or Android.

  • 24-hour pass: $12
  • 72-hour pass: $24

After you purchase a pass, you will be given a ride code to unlock a bike.

Each individual trip begins when a bike is unlocked and ends when the bike is securely returned at any Citi Bike station. Each trip can last up to 30 minutes. If your trip lasts longer than 30 minutes, you will be charged an overtime fee of $4 for each additional 15 minutes. The timer resets whenever you dock a bike, so you can make an unlimited number of trips during an access period.

After you purchase a membership, you will be mailed a key to unlock the bike from its dock.

Each individual trip begins when a bike is unlocked and ends when the bike is securely returned at any Citi Bike station. Each trip can last up to 45 minutes. If your trip lasts longer than 45 minutes, you will be charged an overtime fee of $2.50 for each additional 15 minutes. The timer resets whenever you dock a bike, so you can make an unlimited number of trips during an access period.

Discount for SNAP Recipients, NYCHA, and CDCU Members

A discounted membership of $5 per month is available if you are a:

  • SNAP (food stamp) recipient

You can return the bike to any Citi Bike station in New York City. Make sure you:

  1. Line up the triangle at the front of the bike with the dock.
  2. Insert the bike gently, but firmly into the dock without slamming it in.
  3. Wait for the green light to confirm the bike is properly locked into the dock.

Your trip is closed once the green light appears. If you don't see a green light, try again.

If you are an Annual Member, you can log into your Citi Bike account and turn on trip-closure notifications.

If the Bike Rack is Full:

  1. Select "time credit" on the kiosk screen to request an additional 15 minutes of ride time at no extra charge.
  2. You will be directed to the nearest station with empty docks.
  3. Go to the identified station and return the bike there.

The Police Department enforces traffic rules on City streets and in Central Park.

Any cyclist not obeying all traffic rules may be issued a Traffic Violation by a police officer.
