New York City’s Fast Food Deductions Law requires fast food employers to deduct voluntary payments from fast food workers’ paychecks and send those payments to a nonprofit of a worker’s choosing. The nonprofit must have a registration letter from the Department of Consumer Affairs (DCA).

Fast food worker rights include:

  • Receiving disclosures from selected nonprofit
  • Authorizing employers to deduct voluntary payments from paycheck to send to a selected nonprofit
  • Making automatic deductions and payments to selected nonprofits after DCA registers nonprofit
  • Revoking authorization to deduct voluntary payments

Fast food workers and employers in NYC can contact the Department of Consumer Affairs (DCA) about:

  • Fast food workers’ legal rights to make contributions to nonprofits through an employer
  • Fast food employers’ legal responsibilities to honor employee requests to deduct voluntary payments from paychecks to send to selected nonprofits that have a registration letter from DCA
  • Complaints about employers, including failing to deduct voluntary payments from workers' paychecks to send to selected nonprofits
  • Information about the Fast Food Deductions Law
