Teens and young adults who are not working and not in school can get referrals for employment and training services, including job placement.

You can get referrals for employment and training services for out-of-school youth aged 16 to 24. The programs include work-readiness training, leadership development, career exploration workshops, instruction and tutoring, support services, and follow-up.

The Out-of-School Youth Program offers training that will lead to employment opportunities. Locations for participating organizations will be provided. You are encouraged to contact several organizations. You can get applications from these sites.

Out-of-school New Yorkers ages 18 to 24 can get help preparing for employment and finding jobs in the city at West Farms Workforce1 career centers.

Workforce1 is a service provided by the Department of Small Business Services that prepares and connects qualified candidates to job opportunities in New York City.

The services offered include:

  • Assessment
  • Development workshops
  • Job matching
  • Help navigating public benefits
  • On-site high school equivalency courses
  • Occupational training

A Workforce1 career center located in the Bronx offers services for youth, ages 18 to 24, who seek to obtain a High School Equivalency Diploma while preparing for careers.

You can get additional assistance for out-of-school or unemployed youths aged 16 to 24 who have not been able to locate a suitable training program or internship.

The Department of Youth & Community Development (DYCD) offers a resource and referral service called Youth Connect for youth, families and community based organizations (CBO).
