You can apply for a monthly permit to reserve a space at a New York City municipal parking garage. Reservations are accepted five calendar days before the end of each month, on a first-come, first-served basis up to the available supply of parking spaces in each garage. A limited number of permits are available for reservation and purchase in-person at each garage on the first day of each month.

A valid New York State Department of Motor Vehicles driver license is required to make a reservation and get the permit. Each licensed driver may make one reservation and receive one permit per garage.

Obtaining a reservation voucher doesn't guarantee that a monthly parking permit will be issued. Before the first day of the following month, you must present the parking reservation voucher e-mail, the permit fee, and NY State driver license at the garage to receive the parking permit. The name on the driver's license must match the name appearing on the reservation confirmation.

Some City-owned municipal parking facilities, lots, and garages have spaces available for monthly or quarterly parking. The Department of Transportation issues permits on a first-come, first-served basis. Fees vary according to location.

Permits are not available for commercial vehicles.

Department of Education

If you're a Department of Education (DOE) employee, you can get a permit that will allow you to park in on-street parking spaces that are reserved for school staff.

You can only use the permit at the school where you work. Parking spaces are available on a first-come, first-served basis. You can request a permit by contacting the principal at your school.

Other City Agencies

City government employee parking permits are for official government use. They are good for 3-hour parking in No Parking, Truck Loading and metered zones.

A City agency's official liaison can apply for the permit through e-Permits or by mail.

The City issues parking permits to eligible religious organizations so their clerics may park near houses of worship and hospitals.

Permits allow parking for up to four hours in No Parking zones adjacent to the house of worship and for up to three hours in No Parking zones adjacent to hospitals.

Non-profit organizations can request new parking permits or renew existing permits. The permits allow parking in designated zones for business purposes. The permit is valid for one year.
