You need training in infection control to get a Tattoo Artist License. You must successfully complete the New York City Health Department’s Infection Control Course for Tattoo and Permanent Makeup Artists.

The course is three hours long and taught twice a month. You can register in person or online. To register for the Infection Control Course online, you must also apply for a Tattoo Artist License at the same time.

After you complete the course and pass the final exam, you will get your license.

Fee

The cost of the course, including the final exam, is $26 and the Tattoo Artist license is $100, for a total of $126. A 2% fee will be charged when you register online. You can only pay by credit card online.

If registering in person, you may pay by check, money order, or credit or debit cards. Visa credit and debit cards are not accepted.
